TIKTOK IN RETURN TO OFFICE PUSH
TikTok is ditching pandemic-era perks including staff daily meal stipends as the social media platform pushes employees to work more from its offices. The company announced its return to office policy last month, requiring that staff come in at least twice a week. TikTok hired thousands of employees amid an upsurge in the app’s popularity following pandemic lockdowns in early 2020. Most of the new hires have been working remotely, but weren’t working in places that corresponded with the locations of the offices where they were expected to be based. Those employees have been advised that it is now time to begin moving to the location of their offices, a TikTok spokeswoman said. TikTok wants to bring food catering to its offices to make up for the loss of the meal stipend, the spokeswoman added.

THE SHAPE OF TOMORROW
As an HR leader you’ve guided the business through the intricacies of COVID - hybrid working, employee wellbeing, workforce planning and much, much more.

You’ve shaped a new normal through a time where strategic planning was largely secondary to tactical thinking, and the ability to pivot at speed.

Now, with your seat at the table fully earned, you field daily questions from your fellow execs such as What does a great people strategy look like?  What is the optimal location strategy?  And How will HR make this happen?

These are tough questions at the best of times and the best source of data in answering these almost always comes from your peers. Share your views on this and more here and learn how others are tackling these topics.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS GET A REBOOT
Washington DC-based Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leader Izaba Paras has generated more than 163k reactions and nearly 8k comments with her LinkedIn post that queries society's traditional definition of what is considered professional. “It's time we see beyond what we have traditionally known. Shout out to everyone who is breaking barriers and setting new standards. So here is my new headshot - tattoos, piercings and pink hair and all!”

FAKE SOCIAL MEDIA PUSH PRO-CHINA TALKING POINTS
A Chinese marketing company hosted a ring of at least 72 fake news sites in 11 languages with corresponding fake social media personas that pushed Chinese government talking points, according to research. The report by Mandiant adds to a growing list of examples of disinformation operations attributed to China. “The campaign observed by Mandiant is another example of how China is unable to influence cultural narratives with inauthentic accounts and forged documents,” said Dakota Cary, a China analyst at the Krebs-Stamos Group, a cybersecurity company.

CHORIZO JOKE A LOAD OF BALONEY!
A senior French scientist has apologised after tweeting an image which he said was from the James Webb Space Telescope — but which was actually a slice of Spanish chorizo sausage. Etienne Klein, a director at France's Atomic Energy Commission, posted a picture on the social media platform which purportedly showed Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our sun. "This level of detail ... a new world is revealed every day," he wrote. Some unamused Twitter users described his joke as "inappropriate."
