TWITTER PROPOSES AMNESTY FOR SUSPENDED ACCOUNTS
Elon Musk has proposed a “general amnesty” for suspended Twitter accounts, allowing them to come back with a few restrictions. Musk suggested that accounts that had not “broken the law or engaged in egregious spam” would be allowed back on the platform, in what would be one of his biggest policy reversals to date. The move comes as Musk has faced pushback that his criteria for content moderation is subject to his personal whim, with reinstatements decided for certain accounts and not others.

DO YOU TELL OTHERS YOUR SALARY?
LinkedIn News users share their thoughts on whether salary transparency can help in pay negotiations and ensure fairness, and who people should discuss their salaries with. It’s noted that many companies discourage or even ban staff from discussing their compensation with colleagues. But on a wider or anonymised scale, salary transparency could be a key tool in reducing gender pay gaps, research suggests. Karley Vye, a Cambridge-based talent acquisition expert, contributes: “After seeing so much about the positive impact on candidate experience, quality, and DE&I over the past year, it seems as if some businesses have gone backward in their approach toward salary transparency. Salaries shouldn't have to be a guessing game. The lack of clarity contributes to inequality in the workplace.”

EXCEL LIKES DATING
U.S.-based professor Ethan Mollick posts on Twitter to note that, because of Excel, a third of all genetics papers published in top journals have errors, as many genes have names like SEPT2 (the official name of Septin 2), which Excel automatically turns in dates. There's even a live dashboard of the genetics Excel errors detected in top journals every month, here.

BEST SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR TWITTER REFUGEES
London’s Evening Standard takes a look at the best social media platforms to consider if Elon Musk’s Twitter operation shuts down, including Cohost, CounterSocial, Post, Hive, Tumblr, Reddit and Mastodon. Cohost aims to be the “no algorithm” social network, bringing back some of the feel of the internet of years past. Post, created by the former CEO of Google-owned Waze, is designed to make you smarter rather than angry, the app says.

TRIBUTES PAID TO IRELAND’S TIKTOK SOLICITOR
Richard Grogan, a Dublin-based employment solicitor and latterly a star of Irish social media, has passed away. Richard’s advice videos on various issues around employment law became viral hits, and he became known to many for his catchphrase, "that's the law and that's a fact." At first, he thought he’d be too old for TikTok, explaining, "I was asked to do a course in the Law Society on the use of social media in the legal profession and somebody put their hand up and told me I should use TikTok. That was November 30, 2021, I said 'well, I'm not 16, and I can't sing or dance'. I went and had a look at it that evening and opened up my TikTok and posted my first video on December 1, 2021." In less than a year, Richard had accumulated 250,000 followers.
